ByteDance, the Chinese internet giant, said it is discontinuing two of its apps in India and urged its users to move to TikTok.
Users of Vigo Video and Vigo Lite, two apps that allow users to create and share short videos, received a message on Monday, saying that the apps will be discontinued at the end of October this year.

Simultaneously, the company nudged the Vigo users to shift to TikTok and said it would facilitate the move till it shuts down formally. Both Vigo Video and Vigo Lite allowed sharing short-form sketches and lip-syncing Bollywood songs.

The message titled “A Farewell Letter” thanked users for spending time on the apps before announcing their closure. It added that TikTok encourages users to create videos, and will help them access a wider audience. The message did not explain why the apps were being discontinued.

The message said the users can choose to get their videos transferred to TikTok, download or delete all their Vigo data from the app.
