TikTok, UC Browser, Likee सहित 59 चीनी ऐप्स बैन, केंद्र सरकार का फैसला
India on Monday banned 59 apps with Chinese links, including the hugely-popular TikTok and UC Browser, saying they were prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the country.
The ban, which comes in the backdrop of the current stand-off with Chinese troops along the Line of Actual control in Ladakh, is also applicable for WeChat and Bigo Live.
The list of apps that have been banned also include Helo, Likee, CamScanner, Vigo Video, Clash of Kings as well as e-commerce platforms Club Factory and Shein.
In an official notification, the government said, “The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking its power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps.”
While the app has been removed from the Play Store and the App Store, users who have already downloaded the app will be able to use the app for now. Interestingly, other apps such as UC Browser and ShareIt that were banned along with TikTok are still available on the Play Store and the App Store.
“They are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order,” the government further added.
The ban on TikTok and other Chinese apps comes in the backdrop of the India-China border clashes in the Galwan Valley region. The border clashes had resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers and had left several injured.
